Dr. P.’s YOGA JOURNEY, IN HER OWN WORDS

I was drawn to yoga for its physical effects and kept at it for its mental benefits; I became a yoga teacher for its ability to heal others. Following a car accident in 1998, my chiropractor recommended that I try yoga for my neck and shoulder pain. As I deepened my practice, I appreciated yoga’s ability to quiet my mind and strengthen my muscles and joints. As a teacher at Horace Mann School in Riverdale, NY, I discovered the joy of sharing yoga with students.  I quickly realized that most students came to relish the brief breathing and movement exercises I led at the start of class as a way to focus their attention and as a respite from their hectic schedules.  So, just as I help students to set goals, I set my own goal of becoming a certified yoga teacher by my 40th birthday. I’m happy to say that I accomplished both in 2011 and have been teaching yoga ever since!

As Head Coach of Crimson Coaching, I use breath work, guided visualizations and simple meditations to help students suffering from test and social anxiety, as well as those hoping to improve focus and concentration.  I also deliver public lectures about mindfulness and teens, especially as it relates to their academic experience, at libraries and community and religious organizations.
